Doctors Hospital is part of Baptist Health South Florida, and is covered by its Financial Assistance Policy, BHSF-355.14, revised September 26, 2024. The figures below come from that document.

Income limits

Baptist Health publishes an eligibility table rather than a sliding scale. Both bands receive a 100% discount — the bill is written off entirely — but every band is capped at $75,000 of gross income.

Family size Up to 200% FPL (100% off) 200-300% FPL (100% off)
1 $30,120 $30,121 to $45,180
2 $40,880 $40,881 to $61,320
3 $51,640 $51,641 to $75,000
4 $62,400 $62,401 to $75,000
5 $73,160 $73,161 to $75,000
6 or more $75,000 $75,000

These figures are the 2024 gross income levels published in the policy. The federal poverty guidelines are updated annually, so confirm the current table before relying on a number.

The second band is recorded as special needs financial assistance, but the discount is the same 100%.

The $75,000 cap matters

Notice what the cap does to larger families. A family of six at 200% of the poverty level would ordinarily be well above $75,000, but the policy stops at $75,000 regardless. For bigger households the cap, not the poverty percentage, is what decides eligibility.

Eligibility is re-assessed, not decided once

A decision that you can afford to pay does not close the door. The policy requires your need to be re-evaluated when you receive further services, when your income changes, or when your family size changes. If your circumstances got worse after a denial, ask again.

How to apply

Complete a financial assistance application with supporting documents. You can speak to a financial counsellor on 786-596-6507, Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm, or in person at any Baptist Health hospital’s patient access department. Applications can be mailed to Baptist Health South Florida, Inc., P.O. Box 830880, Miami, FL 33283.

If you have applied for Medicaid and no denial has arrived within 60 days of billing, the policy allows your account to be approved without the written Medicaid denial.

What is not covered

The policy does not apply to services from Express Care, Care on Demand, or any concierge practice of Baptist Health Medical Group. Charity care eligibility also does not extend to non-emergency treatment such as non-emergent surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy in some circumstances, so confirm before a planned procedure.
