Huntington Hospital is one of the facilities named in the Cedars-Sinai Financial Assistance Policy, effective January 1, 2025. The policy lists it directly, so the terms below apply to bills from this hospital.

Who the program is for

The policy covers patients receiving medically necessary care. Unusually, it applies to underinsured patients as well as uninsured ones, meaning people who have coverage but cannot meet their share of the costs because of high premiums or out-of-pocket amounts.

Assets are not considered. The policy states plainly that savings and property are not counted when deciding whether you qualify.

Income limits

Eligibility is measured against the current year’s federal poverty level (FPL):

  • At or below 400% of FPL — charity care, meaning the bill is written off in full.
  • Between 401% and 600% of FPL — a discount payment on a sliding scale.

The sliding scale is published in the policy:

Income (FPL) Uninsured discount Underinsured discount
Up to 400% 100% 100%
450% 95% 90%
500% 90% 80%
550% 85% 70%
600% 85% 60%

How to apply

You complete a financial assistance application. The policy limits what the hospital can demand as proof of income to recent pay stubs or income tax returns, and says it may accept other forms but cannot require them.

You may be asked to be screened for Medi-Cal eligibility first, so that you get information about Medi-Cal benefits you might be entitled to.

Deadline

There isn’t one. The policy states that patients may apply for charity care or a discount payment at any time. If you are given a discount automatically through presumptive eligibility, you can still submit a full application afterwards to ask for more generous assistance.

Which facilities are covered

The policy covers Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Marina Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation, Huntington Hospital and Huntington Health Physicians.

It does not cover physicians who bill separately from the hospital. The policy says explicitly that the organization is not responsible for how independent physicians run their own financial assistance or billing.
